Empire Magazine Rated: 4/5 Apr 7, 2006 Full Review Kirk Honeycutt The Hollywood Reporter A wry exercise in acute observation and emotional distancing, Noah Baumbach's The Squid and the Whale represents what's best in autobiographical filmmaking. Jan 5, 2006 Full Review Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle It's the sort of film that's bound to be labeled modest, but it packs a hefty emotional wallop. Randy W I find it hard to beleive the Popcorn meter gave this a high rating. It was one of the crummiest movies I have seen all year. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Mason M An amazing film that's brutally honest and probably does a good job at showing being a child of divorced parents in the 1980s. The Squid And The Whale is easily Noah Baumbach's best film, having amazing handheld camerawork by Robert Yeoman, and never overstayed it's welcome. The highlights are definitely the opening and closing, with the opening perfectly portraying the family dynamics through a simple game of tennis, and the closing being one of my favorites of all time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review Dani G Much in the style of the director, a little, intimate funny film about human relations Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review K B Touching point of view of how a typical American family functions in todays age. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review John M Pointless and disappointing. Use your 2 hours for better entertainment. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Guy S Noah Baumbach is one of the worst filmmakers ever. This film is modestly better than Margot's Wedding, but it never gets beyond the level of INSIPIDLY BORING. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
