David Fear Rolling Stone ... A chance to see a true indie-movie O.G. potentially get the credit he deserves. Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com “Sr.” is a highly identifiable portrait of family and the sense that even when a parent dies in their 80s, the loss and grief is tough on those left behind. Dec 6, 2022 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday This is one of the best movies of the year, unmissable even if you've never seen a Downey Sr. movie. Rated: 4/4 Dec 5, 2022 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension ven in his 80s and deeply afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, the now-late elder Downey appears still funny, cool as hell and actively directing and editing from his bed. Jul 28, 2023 Full Review Jillian Chilingerian Offscreen Central Though posed as a documentary, SR. is actually a love story between two generations that turns into an emotional farewell for its antiestablishment subject. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Martin Carr We Got This Covered With Sr, Robert Downey Jr may have helped create one of the great documentaries. Something which seeks to celebrate cinema, alongside a film maker in Robert Downey Sr, who helped shape the opinions of an acting icon. Rated: 5/5 Jan 11, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Laurie F Wonderful heartfelt doco about father and son. Insightful and revealing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Tanya H What a raw, natural view of Robert Downey Jnr. Such a heartwarming movie that encouraged me to reconnect with my parent Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Jeff M What begins as a retrospective of a career in film soon becomes an amazingly personal and eventually emotionally devastating tribute by a son about his father. Downey, Sr. was never a widely known filmmaker to the general public as he spent most of his years making underground movies many people probably never heard of. The time in this documentary devoted to his filmography will most likely not be of much interest to the average filmgoer. However, as the film progresses, and we witness the deterioration of the elder Downey's health, any of us who have lost a loved one - particularly a parent - will inevitably relate to many of the painfully personal moments captured on film. I suppose some may question putting on celluloid something as private and intimate as a dying man's final days. But there is nothing here that feels exploitative, and there's a certain poignancy of two people obviously in love with the art of filmmaking using it to encapsulate a lifetime of success, failure and regret. As someone caring for an elderly father, there are moments here that hit almost too close to home. I don't know if I would ever want to watch it again, but I'm glad I had the experience.
