Sophie Butcher Empire Magazine Margaret Qualley is lively and engaging, but Stars At Noon is let down by a wearingly meandering plot and lacklustre chemistry. Rated: 2/5 Jun 26, 2023 Full Review Jourdain Searles Little White Lies Mysterious, opaque, probably worth revisiting down the road… a classic Claire Denis movie then. Rated: 4/5 Jun 23, 2023 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Playing out in cheap motels with sweating walls, it’s a languid mood piece rather than a thriller, but one that leaves a sense of discomfort that creeps over the skin like a heat rash. Rated: 4/5 Jun 18, 2023 Full Review Milana Vujkov Lola On Film Moody, steamy, ambiguous [...] Denis’s latest is not the tour de force her breakthrough film was, yet it is made of the same elusive material, inhabiting a volatile liminal space, oozing sensual honesty. Rated: 4/5 Sep 30, 2023 Full Review Hector A. Gonzalez Loud and Clear Reviews Claire Denis dominates the balance of tenderness and civil restlessness in Stars at Noon, a sweaty and dreamlike political thriller. Rated: 4/5 Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Pedro Gallego Espinof As is expected in clandestine intrigues, the plot is confusing, but in this case, it doesn't result in a compelling experience. Hortensia Slow moving. Expected more action. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/16/22 Full Review Vinny This movie made no sense: no plot, no background, no character development, no storyline. 2.5 hours of our lives we will never get back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/22 Full Review Eric S This movie had no discernable plot and I really had no idea what was happening. Acting was fine but the dialogue was terrible and lack of any purpose just makes you want to turn it off the further you get into the movie. Lots of pointless nudity and more than a few "why the hell did that just happen" moments. Skip this and watch The Substance, you'll get just as much if not more Margarent Qualley nudity but accompanied by an actual plot. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Aurora W A classic Claire Denis movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Alec B Denis's desire to underplay the tension and the dialogue works here as does her heightening of the sexual material. It actually does make the characters more enduring. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Diane L This is probably the worst movie I have seen in a very long time! The acting is terrible, the plot is muddled with holes, and the dialogue is nonsense more often than not. I was bored to tears halfway through the movie but toughed it out through the 2 hours and 18 minutes, hoping for some clever ending or twist. Sadly, it never came. The whole premise is poorly executed and the characters are caricatures devoid of any true purpose. It is hard to feel any attachment to either of the protagonists as they are unlikable and shallow. The movie is filled with gratuitous scenes of degradation that add nothing of value. Did I really need to see Margaret Qualley naked on a toilet or Joe Alwyn's bloody hands after fingering Qualley while on her period? The only thing this movie captured was the nonsensical measures during the Covid era. I would've given it zero stars if that was an option.
