08/30/2023 When you surf you're not on solid ground anymore You're in water; a surface of concrete matter that surrounds you No actors, no stereotypes, all authentic ness in this surfing documentary Dana Brown narrates as a bonafide surfer A 2,000 year old pastime he describes it as many other surfers are interviewed intwined with footage of giant ocean waves they venture across Some waves are simple to surf while others are far too dangerous lest someone fall off their surfboard, drown or hit coral reef The jagged rocks or the pressure from the water can cause serious injuries It doesn't matter if you surf California, Wisconsin or Hawaii you own the waves your own way There’s more to the sport than what people automatically assume Women have also come a long way since at the start they were not welcome into the surfing community An amazingly filmed documentary with gorgeous cinematography and in-depth interviews telling all about the passion of the subject matter See more 10/16/2014 Thoroughly enjoyable See more 02/18/2014 Best surf movie I have seen, so far. See more 09/27/2013 The best surfing movie ever made See more 12/30/2012 Cool documentary on surfing as a worldwide phenomenon. The film takes the action from Tahiti to Ireland, from Hawaii to the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The second half of the movie has more surfing and introduces pro-surfers as well. The first half wasn't exactly boring, but concentrated on showing the people who weren't professional surfers, yet who surfed. Those people and their lives were touched, but there could have been a bit more of surfing during the first half of the film in my opinion. I would have liked to see surfing in the place of some of the interviews. This film works best as an all-around introduction into surfing. It has really cool moments, my favorite were the tahiti-scene and the extreme surfing at the open sea. The guys are just stoked when they get to surf down 30 meter high waves, that looked crazy. The picture and sound quality are great and as a movie this is very well directed. I've seen this movie at least twice, the DVD came with a computer version of the movie and a game called Kelly Slater Pro Surfing. Despite its slow pace, this is among my favorite films. See more 12/09/2012 Breathtaking footage and fascinating locales, this movie isn't just about the culture of surfing and thrill seeking it also serves to highlight the human spirit of adventure, ingenuity, and appreciation of the beauty of the natural world. Much like the sport's enthusiasts it portrays it never takes it self too seriously and the the affection the movie has for it's subjects mirrors the genuine affection the surfers have for the sport itself.
