Paul Attanasio Washington Post The spectacle of King churning them out, churning them out, churning them out is, unfortunately, so much more vivid than anything he writes. Jan 2, 2018 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times There are all sorts of sly satiric touches in the film. Rated: 3/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault This dreadful, borderline campy movie, about a werewolf on the prowl in a sedate town, is long on gore and short on logic. Jelisije J A charming dark hokey movie where a disabled kid takes on a werewolf. A movie with a lot of heart with like able characters that left me caring whether they lived or died. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Dallas H Gary Busey as a werewolf chasing, drunk uncle was just preparing us all for his real-life personality. I got a kick out of watching this movie. It was fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Ricardo R It's a good movie, where Stephen's presence can be felt throughout, and the sense of humor doesn't get in the way of the overall tone. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review TI H I wonder how it’s possible that a movie like, say, Child’s Play, a pointless slasher film, gets an RT score of 74%/65%, while Silver Bullet languishes as 41%/56%. From the opening scene and Megan Follows’s reminiscing, Silver Bullet does something special in a horror film. It gives us a story, one that also happens to be scary. In other words, it’s not a scary story that tacks on character drama. Silver Bullet involves the narrator’s wheelchair-bound brother, Marty (Corey Haim), and his discovery that someone in town is a werewolf. The plot requires these kids to investigate the people of the town to find out who is responsible for the recent explosion of brutal murders. Before facing the threat, they need assistance from their alcoholic uncle (Gary Busey) and a makeshift silver bullet. Unfortunately, there’s only one bullet. //// On the downside, the movie suffers from mediocre acting, but nothing that feels out of place in the 80s. The special effects work for the time they were made although might seem outdated to younger viewers. What works is that we care for the brother/sister team. Marty being in a wheelchair fuels internal conflicts within the family, and it ramps up the suspense during the werewolf scenes. (You and I would be scared of a werewolf, but how mega-scared would we be if we couldn’t run?) ///// I can’t say I loved this movie more than I did An American Werewolf In London, but it’s a class or two above the Howling. I consider it a must-see for werewolf fans. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Clint O The people who gave this movie a bad score are truly pathetic. This is a great "whodunit" with an awe-worthy cast. If you judge this by movie standards after-the-fact, ok, you will not get a cgi euphoria. If you judge it based on storytelling and the special effects of the day, you will be neurotically concerned for the protagonist and suspecting everyone and everything. The special effects at the time were compelling to say the leat. Busey and Haim bring the necessary prowess to make this THE BEST WEREWOLF MOVIE EVER MADE! F**k The Howling, which was good, and probably got a worse score. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Jonathan O One of the scariest werewolf horror movie of all time. Is completely gory and is one mean son of a bi 🤬 werewolf, the cinematography really feels like a grims fairy tale and incredible special make-up effects and is a different type of every werewolf horror from original wolf man thru The Howling and An American Werewolf in London.
