Paul Attanasio Washington Post The spectacle of King churning them out, churning them out, churning them out is, unfortunately, so much more vivid than anything he writes. John C There can't be too many other authors out there who have such a 'hit and miss' chance of getting their literary adaptations onto the big screen. Sometimes they're awesome. Other times they stink. This mid-eighties, mid-budget werewolf flick falls right in the centre. It's about a young teenage boy in a wheelchair who suspects the recent spree of murders in his small American town are down to something a lot more dangerous than just your average random nutter. So he grinds his big sister down enough to get her to help look into it, along with their - only slightly flaky uncle - played by the - possibly very flaky - Gary Busey. It's sometimes hard for kids to carry any a film (and they seem to have a worse track record in the horror genre), but these two have enough energy to get you to not want them to end up last seen sliding down a werewolf's throat. But I guess they have a 'secret weapon' (and, no, I'm not talking about the silver bullet they get made to take the beast down. I'm talking about Gary Busey. His presence adds a certain charm to the generally shlocky affair and make it at least watchable. Werewolf films are almost as hard to get right as Stephen King adaptations themselves and - again - this one falls midway. I can name better ones ('Dog Soldiers' and 'Ginger Snaps') but I've seen a lot worse. There are a few nice practical effects here and it rolls along quickly enough without an awful lot of fat on the script. If you like anything from eighties horror, to werewolf movies or King's work on the big screen, give it a go - you might find something here. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Marty J I shared the same name and age as Corey Haim’s character, Marty, when this film was released. My older sister was the same age as Megan Follows’ character, Jane, and our relationship mirrored theirs in the movie. "Silver Bullet" was a favorite of ours, and for that reason alone, it will always hold a special place in my heart. Gary Busey’s Uncle Red is the highlight of the film for me; his performance is both funny and genuine. I grew up to be a Reverend myself, though I’m not as hairy! I love the story, the characters, the acting, and the effects. If it weren't for the narration, I would give it five stars. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Bryant C It's a classic the effects still hold up today Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/23/24 Full Review Jelisije J A charming dark hokey movie where a disabled kid takes on a werewolf. A movie with a lot of heart with like able characters that left me caring whether they lived or died. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Dallas H Gary Busey as a werewolf chasing, drunk uncle was just preparing us all for his real-life personality. I got a kick out of watching this movie. It was fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Ricardo R It's a good movie, where Stephen's presence can be felt throughout, and the sense of humor doesn't get in the way of the overall tone.
