Like Hearts of Darkness, this documentary follows the making of a movie on which more than a million feet of film was reportedly exposed, but sadly Le Mans is no Apocalypse Now.

There is real poignancy here in the reminiscences of McQueen's former wife Neile Adams and his son, Chad. Like the Le Mans movie itself, the doc sometimes loses its focus but it is beautifully made.

The race sequences, shot with car-mounted cameras, are dazzling, but otherwise it's a bore. Mind you, the documentary's suggestion that McQueen stuck to safe fare like The Getaway and The Towering Inferno thereafter is wrong.

I will admit I found this movie intriguing . I saw his slade blue 930 recently go at Barrett Jackson. It had a kill switch on the dash to kill the tail lights to help shake the cops thru the Hollywood hills. ( badass)Ã°'Â? I found out he too shared my Porsche Passion. So I thought I would watch. No new material really. Kinda was a bit drawn out. Little too much of his strange son. But it was cool to hear and see those old cars run. It is crazy how fast they went with so little safety in those old cars . It did make Mcqeen look like a dick most of the movie. But he could drive no doubt. This one he wanted to be his one great work. But it ended up being a big defeat. From a personal and business standpoint. Camera work was pretty cool and incredible considering this movie is 40 years old. Not sure how anyone other than a small group of gear heads would get from it. But it was decent.
