Whatever audiences take away from the film, there is no denying it delivers sheer entertainment. Darkly comic on occasion, seedier than Liv Tyler’s turn in Super, and more fun than anything this far down the cinematic food chain deserves to be.

STONE COLD FOX is a gorgeous throwback action-thriller. This is exactly the kind of movie I grew up watching, but now the lead characters are women. Don’t worry, there are men in this movie as well. More than there were women in most 1980s action movies.

Stone Cold Fox is a deeply disappointing film that never comes close to delivering on its premise. Despite a cast that should elevate the material, the movie is painfully boring and unfocused from the start. The screenplay is all over the place, constantly hinting that it might build toward something engaging, only to lose momentum and sink back into dull, disconnected scenes. There are brief moments where it feels like the story could finally come together, but those sparks fade quickly, replaced by slow pacing and a lack of narrative drive. The direction feels inconsistent, as if the film never decided what kind of story it wanted to tell, leaving scenes to drift without tension or purpose. Even strong performers are wasted here, buried under weak writing and poor execution. Ultimately, Stone Cold Fox is forgettable, frustrating, and hard to recommend. It’s a film that tries to intrigue but ends up being boring at its best and a complete misfire overall.

I just saw Stone Cold Fox, directed by Sophie Tabet, and I found it incredibly entertaining. The final twist is genuinely clever, and the performances by the two lead actresses are absolutely spot on. For a first feature, Sophie really nailed it. The 1980s atmosphere—from the color grading and film grain to the sound design—feels intentional and immersive. Every detail works together beautifully. A very strong debut.
