Patty T @Pat87 1d I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1976, ten years before this movie was made. I think the acting in this film was very believable, but I think that the doctor's statements and his attitude was so poor as to be unrealistic even for the time. While the doctor in the film gives little to no hope to the parents, my family was told by my psychiatrist that I could realistically be living a normal life after six months of treatment with medication. It actually took over a year because of my not being completely compliant with the medication regimen. Treatment rather than cure is still the goal. There are better testimonies on the subject currently. But this film has heart - the family is portrayed with all their love and fears as they struggle with this personal tragedy. See more Taylor H @TH0809 May 20 It’s quite good. One of the better portrayals of mental illness that I’ve seen. And it was made for TV in 1987! It covers many different aspects, including family dynamics. The topic is approached with great empathy. This is worth a watch. It’s just as relevant today as it was then. See more Read all reviews
