Mike McCahill Guardian Green, 50, often gives the impression of being a 15-year-old whose parents bought him a camera to prise his hands from his underpants. Rated: 1/5 Oct 4, 2018 Full Review Matthew Bond The Mail on Sunday (UK) The nasty, charmless, fatally misjudged Strangeways Here We Come turns out to be one of the worst films of the year rather than the taboo-trampling comic caper it must have once hoped to be. Firstname S Ignore the weird patronising 'professional' reviews, we'll decide if something is 'actionable' or not you daft sod. This film was a blast from start to finish, good story, great dialogue and fantastic acting, not preachy but doesn't sugar coat or glamorise anything. A fine full, ignore the haters. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review teelei I was scrolling through Facebook this morning and I saw a post from Manchester news saying that this film had gotten bad rotten tomato rates because it's seen as offensive to those from Manchester. After a read through the comments, I realised people actually thought this was funny and wasn't offensive whatsoever. So I decided to watch it… I needed a good laugh this morning and I got exactly that! Wasn't offensive whatsoever haha. Good choice of cast members too! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/10/22 Full Review joe c I agree with the other audience reviews I laughed throughout the movie and really enjoyed the quirky characters! Watch it and make up your own mind. THe critics reviews seem to wanting 'gone with the wind' or something, no cursing and have their man buns all in a tizzy over this one!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The film is very well paced with good music . The acting is very credible and the humour is funny. The critics seem not to understand the film. Maybe its the old north south divide getting in the way as the Salford audiences have loved the film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member An absolutely brilliant film. This film had a great cast and a hilarious story line. It almost felt like we knew the characters personally and made a connection with them as the story progressed. The soundtrack was also brilliant. Overall it was a great northern black comedy - people on a council estate sticking together with a sense of community even at a time of murder - and it is a fabulous independent film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The Guardian critic clearly wasn't in the screening I went to , "failed to raise a laugh"? I heard an audience who laughed throughout. Do yourself a favour, ignore the pretentious twaddle of middle class reviewers, and go and see the film. It's raw, in your face northern black humour. It's very funny.
