In that case, it might be time for some sweet revenge, doggy style. When Reggie (Will Ferrell), a naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier, is abandoned on the mean city streets by his lowlife owner, Doug (Will Forte; The Last Man on Earth, Nebraska), Reggie is certain that his beloved owner would never leave him on purpose. But once Reggie falls in with a fast-talking, foul-mouthed Boston Terrier named Bug (Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx), a stray who loves his freedom and believes that owners are for suckers, Reggie finally realizes he was in a toxic relationship and begins to see Doug for the heartless sleazeball that he is. Determined to seek revenge, Reggie, Bug and Bug's pals--Maggie (Isla Fisher; Now You See Me, Wedding Crashers), a smart Australian Shepherd who has been sidelined by her owner's new puppy, and Hunter (Randall Park; Always Be My Maybe, Aquaman), an anxious Great Dane who's stressed out by his work as an emotional support animal--together hatch a plan and embark on an epic adventure to help Reggie find his way home... and make Doug pay by biting off the appendage he loves the most. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Crudely effective and effectively crude, Strays is more amusing than hilarious, but this comedy's scattershot humor is partly offset by its surprisingly big heart.

Strays is funny enough to recommend as a raunchy good time -- just know that it definitely isn't for kids or the easily offended.

Kevin J Great film with a very versatile V/O cast. Some of the jokes were a bit phoned in and obvious, but overall, I'd watch it again and recommend anyone who enjoys movies led by Will Ferrell or Jamie Foxx to check this joint out! Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times Visually, director Josh Greenbaun doesn't offer anything surprising. [Full review in Spanish] Oct 5, 2023 Full Review Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's uneven and should be sharper than it is, but is the dog movie equivalent of Bad Santa. Very scatological and obscene, but very funny. Sep 7, 2023 Full Review Tim Grierson Breakfast All Day There is funny stuff in the movie.. just didn't think it was funny enough. Aug 24, 2023 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review I laughed harder and more frequently than just about any movie this year. Rated: B Dec 4, 2023 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed More heartbreaking than funny... Nov 11, 2023 Full Review George M. Thomas Akron Beacon Journal It’s fun, vulgar and represents one of those films meant to be enjoyed on multiple occasions late at night with beers and friends. There exist other things in life that are worse for you. Rated: B- Oct 12, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
