Martial arts master Terry Tsurugi (Sonny Chiba) may be an assassin-for-hire, but when he hears of a plot to kidnap Sarai (Doris Nakajima), the daughter of a dead billionaire, he offers her protection. As he attempts to keep Sarai safe, he also deals with a pair of siblings who refuse to pay up after Terry helps their convicted brother escape from prison. But it's Sarai's life he cares about, so when the mobsters manage to steal her away, Terry will battle whoever gets in his way to rescue her.

My third favorite movie of all time behind Casablanca and 12 Monkeys. I became a lifelong Sonny Chiba fan after watching this movie. Yeah, Enter The Dragon is the best martial arts film ever, but The Street Fighter is the most fun.

I went back and watched this after Sonny China's sad COVID death. The fighting is insanely good for a movie of its day. Chiba is gritty and talented. He has good screen presence. The story is solid with two story lines: one about collecting a debt for a prison break and a second about protecting an heiress. This movie is visually good. The dubbing is horrible or I might have given it an additional star. This one always lands on lists of the best martial arts' films of all time so I suggest it is worth seeing. Some good looks at Japanese karate and traditional karate training. There is some brutal and chauvinistic scenes.

This is a gloriously excessive and hilarious martial arts film that is very much a product of it's time which isn't a bad thing at all in this instance. ‘Street fighter' has just the right amount of silliness and stockpile of formulaic cliches to make it entertaining.
