Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I went back and watched this after Sonny China's sad COVID death. The fighting is insanely good for a movie of its day. Chiba is gritty and talented. He has good screen presence. The story is solid with two story lines: one about collecting a debt for a prison break and a second about protecting an heiress. This movie is visually good. The dubbing is horrible or I might have given it an additional star. This one always lands on lists of the best martial arts' films of all time so I suggest it is worth seeing. Some good looks at Japanese karate and traditional karate training. There is some brutal and chauvinistic scenes. Sure, the production values are commendable, the choreography is enjoyable and the violence is vibrantly provocative, but when it's all surrounding a protagonist who's just too hard to like, you end up with "The Street Fighter."
