British filmmaker Ron Peck discusses the experiences that led to his directorial feature debut, 1978's visionary coming-out tale "Nighthawks." Intercutting the director's own frank commentary with behind-the-scenes and cutting-room footage from the earlier film, Peck investigates the pitfalls of the gay community's uninhibited embrace of sexual freedom -- an attitude that, Peck believes, has negatively effected gay males' willingness to enter into committed relationships.
