What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's technically impressive and loaded with eye-catching images, but without characters or a plot to support them, all of Sucker Punch's visual thrills are for naught.

Sucker Punch packs a pretty strong wallop. I enjoyed a lot of it, but I wish someone had warned me that a lobotomy was going to be a major plot point. Go to Full Review

Gun-toting hotties combat assorted villains and their robot henchmen in this tawdry, repellent action fantasy. Go to Full Review

Snyder likes to think that his Russian nesting doll of a concept is enough to excuse its hollow center. Go to Full Review

You've witnessed why Zach Snyder's movies never become revered ground-breaking classics: the stories can never live up to the visuals. Go to Full Review

This was god awful. There was a lack of depth in the female characters so it's just eye candy with some dope action scenes. But without any substance, the gimmicks get old very fast. Go to Full Review

Despite some incredible visuals and eye candy, this movie executed so poorly and backwards that it's offensive. The actresses were clearly sold a different movie than what was ultimately put on the screen. Emily Browning was greatly miscast. Go to Full Review

Jake W @Jakeyjake383 4d Sucker Punch is like a Waffle House. Not bad but not good either. It’s best enjoyed when you’re drunk on the comedown at 2am on a Tuesday. This movie has minimal substance and a slew of cringy scenes. A few moments, it’s like, "why did this make it to the cut?" Or "what was the point of showing me this scene/cut." But it’s still enjoyably action packed with some really well thought out scenes, despite the cringe. Samurai’s, Zombies, Dragons and Killer Robots? Pretty badass. The acting isn’t the worst thing, with some heavy hitting actors and actresses like Oscar Issac, Scott Glenn, Carla Gugino, and more. But most of the main characters have small rolls with zero development or flare. My favorite thing about this movie though, is the playlist. Army of me by Bjork, White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane and Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. My ears enjoyed every second. All in all, this movie is a medium mess of action and a small plot, but still good to come back to every once in a while. Anytime I feel alone and unwanted I pop in my favorite movie, and remember im not doing this alone and I can n will be strong. I know its not the same for everyone but for me. I was born to be a slave to bend n break without a sound, have no real option or opinion just say yes sir and hold back my tears... so for me I related to this movie after I fought to save myself. For me this is my top all time favorite movie and I hope it can reach others in the same way it dose for me everyday. See more Nov 18 The graphics during the dream sequences were definitely a highlight of the movie. The concept is unique and fun. I loved how the dream sequences seemed to take components from video game logic. The protagonists are smart, skillful, and well-acted. Some characters, like the side-characters, seemed to have little to no character development or backstory. The ending was a little confusing, like maybe they were setting up for a sequel that never came to be. All in all, it was enjoyable—especially from a production standpoint. See more Idodeclareindeed B Nov 16 It's stylish, dark, silly, fun, and sad but the whole point of a movie is to entertain still right? Is it the outfits? The main characters are smart, resourceful, and sympathetic, and the villains are played quite well. It is absolutely a try-hard film, but despite that, it's visually stunning and the story, while very shrouded as a narrative, feels evocative. This is a spectacle, not a moving heartfelt story, and even the narrative reflects that. It's still awesome, though. See more Read all reviews
