Critics Consensus

Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing.

DC Comics' latest addition to their burgeoning cinematic universe fails in several rather spectacular ways. Go to Full Review

For all its cast and crew's inglorious chest-thumping, Suicide Squad is a failed, forced exercise in - of all things! you had one job! - ensemble chemistry. Go to Full Review

Based on the screening I attended, I can attest that audiences seemed to genuinely enjoy the jokes and get swept up in the action sequences. Go to Full Review

Big Red 07/21/2023 Cool to see the characters on the big screen See more Heel365 09/17/2021 the main part was this is what Ghostbusters should've been See more Andrew T @RT72355796 8h This movie is kind of good in some aspects, but it’s mostly just a bunch of nonsense. That’s about all there is to say about it. Kind of fun in some scenes but mostly just underwhelming. Very below average. 4/10 See more O.B Fan Boy T @RT21130566 1d Over hated, like super over hated, Harley was the best, Joker isn't bad in my opinion, I like the plot, very sad moments, and I like when movies get chaotic. See more Paolo F @XKP-Producer 3d The question is: who was this made for? Thirteen-year-olds? Because if you're younger, it's not for you. If you're older, you're already too old for this overlong live-action cartoon. And I say "live-action" instead of "performed" because acting requires dialogue worth acting. With lines this painfully bad, nobody could sound believable. The one exception is Margot Robbie. She's miles ahead of everyone else, proving what we already knew before this film and what she kept proving afterward: she's the real deal. Everyone else is trapped in a script beyond saving. The action quickly becomes repetitive, the plot evaporates the moment the credits roll, and the whole thing mistakes loud for entertaining. Want a superhero movie? Watch something else. Want an action movie? Same advice. Finding something worse takes actual effort. See more OOM P @OOMPod 6d There are several great characters and casting choices in Suicide Squad, but the movie never gives them the story they deserve. Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller are perfectly cast, and I also enjoyed Deadshot, Rick Flag, and Captain Boomerang. The character introductions are fun and probably the strongest part of the film. After that, the story becomes disorganized, the villain does not make much sense, and the editing makes everything feel even more chaotic. I also really dislike Jared Leto’s Joker and the way Killer Croc looks here. The movie has some good shots and entertaining moments, but it feels bleak, messy, and underdeveloped. I do not think I would rewatch it unless I was going through the entire DCEU again. See more Read all reviews
