Critics Consensus

Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing.

Samantha Riedel Bitch Media DC Comics' latest addition to their burgeoning cinematic universe fails in several rather spectacular ways. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review K. Austin Collins The Ringer For all its cast and crew's inglorious chest-thumping, Suicide Squad is a failed, forced exercise in - of all things! you had one job! - ensemble chemistry. Aug 10, 2017 Full Review Matthew Rozsa Salon.com Based on the screening I attended, I can attest that audiences seemed to genuinely enjoy the jokes and get swept up in the action sequences. Aug 7, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Bad pacing, horribly chopped-up story structure, and dull forgettable action. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The result is dull, predictable, and feels more standardized than one would imagine, given the subject matter and its attempts to be the DCEU's wildcard. Big Red Cool to see the characters on the big screen Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Heel365 the main part was this is what Ghostbusters should've been Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/17/21 Full Review Matt O “A messy swing that barely connects” – 2/5 Suicide Squad had potential. The idea of a team of villains being thrown together for a dangerous mission sounds cool on paper, but the execution is all over the place. The story feels chaotic and the editing is choppy—it’s like the movie didn’t know what it wanted to be. Margot Robbie is perfect as Harley Quinn, easily the standout and the one of the only ones who seems to fully understand the assignment. Viola Davis doesn’t just play Amanda Waller, she is Amanda Waller, commanding every scene she’s in. On the flip side, Jared Leto’s Joker just doesn’t work. It’s a strange, forced take on the character that falls completely flat. There are flashes of style and some fun moments, but overall it’s a frustrating watch that doesn’t live up to its promise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/22/25 Full Review Carlos B Repulsive. It makes you hate the characters. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/25 Full Review Dominic D Honestly I was really disappointed when I found out that in the “Extended Cut” of this Movie only had an extra 2 Minutes of The Joker. I’m not lying either he only has 2 Little Extra Bits thrown in the “Torchering Harley Quinn” Scene and then he gets 1 Full Extra Scene when Harley Quinn chases The Joker in a Flashback Scene. And that’s literally it. That’s all the “Extra” Joker you get in this Movie which instead of having his Scren Time at 10 Minutes it is now at 12 Minutes…….thats so much more right guys? I hate how WB basically Screws all of us over 3 Times with Leto’s Joker, they Hyped him up so much in the first few trailers of Suicide Squad and then was very disappointed that he was in the Movie for 10 Minutes, then hypes us up AGAIN with the Extended Cut basically we all expect more Joker but they give us 2 Extra Minutes, Screwing us over for the 2nd Time….then…yet again….they say they’re finally going to release the “Ayer Cut” saying there’s like over an Hour of Joker in the Movie, and the cancelling it. Which screwing us iver 3 Times in a row is probably one of the biggest reasons why Leto’s Joker is so hated. I personally think he’s My Favorite Joker but still. They hyped us all up 3 Times in a Row with Leto’s Joker and didn’t deliver a single one of them correctly. Not even close. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/25 Full Review Faiz D Terrible, absolutely terrible. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
