Claudio C Sumala (2024) The Daughter of the Devil (11,891 – 26 Aug 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In a poor Indonesian village, a boy is murdered in the corn plantation during the night. The villagers blame his mate, but a man says that Sumala is to be blamed and tells her story to them. In 1947, in Semarang Regency, the wealthy Soedjiman (Darius Sinathrya) disputes his family estate with his uncle since he has no heir. His infertile wife, Sulastri (Luna Maya), visits a Shaman and makes a pact with the devil to have children. She is instructed that she will have twins, one perfect and the other deformed, and should raise both until the tenth anniversary, when the devil would claim his deformed child. But when the children are born, Soedjiman kills his monstrous daughter Sumala and only his sister Kumala survives. What will happen to the family when the devil claims his murdered child? “Sumala” (2024) is a good Indonesian horror movie with the story of the devil’s daughter Sumala. The plot is cruel, with the disabled Kumala brilliantly performed by Makayla Rose Hilli. The cruel Soedjiman and the omissive Sulastri deserve their fates for neglecting and mistreating Kumala. Sumala’s revenge against the mean village boys is a moment wished by most of the viewers. I believe this is the first Indonesian horror movie that I have watched, and it was a great surprise. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/25 Full Review Sergio R This movie will absolutely scare about 10 pounds off your rear end. Do not watch it alone be prepared to jump, scare and crap your pants. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Topaz W Really well done, I adore Asian horror as much as I adore the entire Tradition of each Asian Continent, this was absolutely 💯 gore and I loved it. The storyline is twists and turns, as well as the visual camera work. It's become one my TOP Asian horror films, right up with The Medium, Incantation, Vietnamese Horror Story, The Ju-On Series..and a few more Definitely a watch for any horror fan! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/26/25 Full Review Craig B Sumala offers mostly gory deaths, but little else. At least it does build up the story by providing ample background to help explain the reasons for subsequent events. It's not particularly scary, and most of the action is fairly wooden. You will probably find you'll be fast-forwarding often to get to parts where something actually happens. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
