Audience Member A very slow film to begin with which becomes more intriguing when more people discover the relationship between Pierre and Cybèle. I can see a lot of people believing that this film portrayed a creepy relationship between a man and a girl but what I found interesting was other people's interpretations of the relationship in the film. Pierre was, in my mind, a type of Lenny character that felt sorry for a girl who always felt abandoned. A problem I did have in the film was the writing for Cybèle. The words she spoke felt like they were written by an adult and did feel pretty odd at times. I was surprised that this film is rotten as both points of view, regarding such a relationship, are put across in this film; from paedophilia to a harmless, friendly relationship. I think people couldn't get over their initial perception that a girl and a friendly relationship with a man who is not her father was too creepy. Overall, I thought the acting and direction, especially the ending, was pretty intriguing and I applaud the film for analysing different perceptions to such a taboo subject similar to the 1961 film "The Mark". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review laurent b Absolute jewel ! Sensitive, poetic, romantic, and very unconventional but never shocking, this platonic romance between a young girl and an adult, is unforgettable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member 4.5 out of 5 stars I have always gravitated toward artists, writers and film makers who aren't afraid to push boundaries, not, mind you, for the sake of simply doing so,but rather with the intent of stretching us in ways that make us uncomfortable, that force us to reason, re-evaluate our predilections and ultimately grow. I love that. This movie is right in the centre of my wheelhouse. It is controversial, potentially quite incendiary yet beautifully, delicately and sympathetically shot. So much to think about with this one - what happens when we lose all of the societal elements we use to identify ourselves like memory, family, name? How then do we come to define ourselves? How will others come to define us? - I'm still pondering it over a day later. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member While not outright succeeding in transcending its ickier taboos, Sundays and Cybele is still a charming little parable about loss of innocence. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A man kill a girl during war and suffers from delayed stress and partial amnesia several years later. His patient wife takes good care of him, but he is still not feeling healthy - he lives like an empty sack, he is just drifting. He starts to regulary meet a young girl, recently abandoned by her father. This is now the uplifting part of his life. The girl gives him what no one else can. Brillantly acted, especially Patricia Gozzi as the girl is magnificent. It's also wonderfully shot and some camera trickery looks both fantastic and impressive. The sad story, portraying what people think and what people understand - people standing outside the lonelyness and the acceptance, outside the love, the care and the treatment. Humane, haunting, warm, affectful and beautiful film that will stay with me for a long time. It's over 50 years old, but this is a timeless piece of art. 9 out of 10 rocks skipped over frozen lakes.
