What makes Jenn-O the Clown happy? Putting smiles on peoples' faces, of course! But so does torture, murder, sex, and cannibalism. Jennifer Sullivan was the proverbial wunderkind. Talented, intelligent, ambitious, and propelled by a strict "momager", she dreamed of success. Now 30 years old, she works a meaningless job, having never discovered the secret of turning her abilities into fame and fortune. It doesn't help that her slovenly husband neglects her, and her mother rubs her nose in her perceived failures. The only thing that brings her happiness is her side gig as a clown. Her coworker, Ryan, offers a glimmer of hope. Jenn reaches a breaking point and coalesces her talent as a clown with her fascination of classic movie monsters and serial killers to unleash a night of infamy that will finally make her famous. That is, unless the tough-as-nails Detective Lauren Marshall and her partner Jacob Barnes can put a stop to her night of terror. Game on!

Written by Eric Winkler, the film explores a woman’s early infatuation with clowns, her desperation to be heard, and how loneliness spreads like a plague. While the film doesn’t totally stick the landing, there’s plenty here to dig into and enjoy. Go to Full Review

Super Happy Fun Clown is a remarkably unique and satisfyingly peculiar tale of a female clown’s quest for vengeance, and it features an exceptional performance from Seward in the titular role. Go to Full Review

Patrick Rea reinvents himself once more, this time in an arena that doesn’t work as well as some of his other projects, though he gets bonus points for bringing a new female clown into the fray. Go to Full Review

There’s an oppressive atmosphere throughout, which enhances the juxtaposition of the brutal murders and Jenn-O’s stoic demeanour. Rea also peppers the movie with pitch-black humour, making the grim realities of Jen’s world a little more palatable. Go to Full Review

Super Happy Fun Clown is a mix of shock, entertainment, and confusion about what it's trying to say. Still, overall, it's a wild ride, even if it's one I would not revisit a second time. Go to Full Review
