      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Superfly updates the blaxploitation original with a stylish remake that's exciting and visually arresting enough to offer its own slickly staged action rewards, but disappointingly short on social subtext.

dave e I liked the film, it was a fun ride. The fight scenes were good and the story is about drug dealing and what happens in the end to most kingpins. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a good movie and the actors said that the movie had to filmed in four weeks. Not by their choice and Trevor Jackson said the character was in his late 20's but it was an update version of the Superfly movies from the 70s. I just hate that it won't be a sequel. The movie made 20 million dollars off a small budget movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit stylized, but that was the intention, afaik. Good entertainment, in fact far better than expected! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review jonathan m Bright colours great storyline flashy outfits great cars fabulous now that I spoke about the original. Haha this one of not worth mentioning Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Liked it. The script wasn't the best. But I think the actors did the best they could do with what they had. Trevor Jackson, Jason Mitchell and Jennifer Morrison were the glue that held the plot together. It had some memorable moments in it.. I rewound a couple times. 😂 What I didn't like Is how they had the women being the weak link and snitching😒🙄that seemed like lazy writing. But I still liked it...🙂 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The lead just didn't carry enough weight to exude a boss, like a child trying on Dad's clothes. Add to that a storyline which is basically little more than hyper-masculine fantasy and you've wasted 90 minutes of your life that you can't get back. Tara Brady Irish Times The clothes are great. The cribs are well-appointed. The fight sequences, although too few, are nicely choreographed. Yet none of it seems to coalesce into a movie. Rated: 2/5 Sep 18, 2018 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Director X...can't seem to differentiate between the strip-club aesthetics of a rap video and the demands of a full-length feature film. Rated: 1/5 Sep 14, 2018 Full Review Linda Marric HeyUGuys An unlikable misfire of a film, with only a few decent performances on hand to make it worth your while. Rated: 2/5 Sep 13, 2018 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut I’ll say this about X’s blaxploitation update-It’s a solid action film with a concise point of view. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension SuperFly is a moderately flashy, mostly fun update of its 46 year old source material but also a reminder of how little has changed in that time. Dec 10, 2020 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review Director X knows how to make a film look impressive and beautifully composed, but he seems lost when it comes to working with actors. The ingredients for a much better film are all there on screen, but nothing quite hits the way it should. Jun 15, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
