Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The plots of these shorts (all running 8-10 minutes) are rather simplistic, but it’s the visual design that really delivers. Audience Member Love the 1940s Fleischer toons Superman! Still beautiful even today! â?ºð??? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This has great animation and a fun story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The Mad Scientist started off a series of excellent Superman cartoons. I love the look of them! The art deco superhero seems to have inspired greats like James Bond and Batman: The Animated Series, 20 and 50 years later! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Fleischer Studios was basically brothers Lou (Music Supervisor), Max (Producer), and Dave (Director). This is the animation studio that brought us Betty Boop and Popeye. The brothers specifically worked on the first nine of these brilliant Art Deco styled series of Superman shorts. Bud Collyer embodies the dual voices of Clark Kent and Superman so well. Lois Lane is illustrated as a truly intrepid reporter, who is not afraid of danger. Getting back to the essence of the original comics, this Superman can leap tall buildings, but not fly. He still has super strength and speed in midair, so it isn't long before jumping and falling turns into what looks like full-blown flight later in the series. This short, which launched Superman's cinematic career, is also known as The Mad Scientist or The Death Ray, so you know both of those things are featured in the plot. Most of this series has a good mix of adventure and just a touch of humor. In this one the villain has a comic sidekick vulture. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Short, but loving every minute of it (and it's only 10 of them). Fleischer's Superman is a superb animated short and one of the best examples of cartoons that works then and today. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Unbeatable in everything. Animation and drawings of the highest quality that had not been surpassed, story, although simple for today standards is catchy, excellent top-voice acting, epic score and a giant production taking the Fleischer's to their peak. Superman (AKA The Mad Scientist / AKA The Death Ray) it is the ultimate example of quality and perfection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
