Superman finally done justice again! With all due respect to Henry Cavill’s iconic performance as the Man of Steel, James Gunn’s version played by David Coronsweat is the first true successor to the role Christoper Reece originated in 1978. Coronsweat plays the role with youthful energy, both to the positive and negative. He is sometimes petulant, sometimes brash and impulsive. But, he’s always led by the desire to do good and be a good example for others. It’s a wonderful balance of the character we haven’t really ever seen, which is one of many thing Gunn does so well in writing his characters. And, Superman is perfectly paired with Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. Like with Coronsweat, Brosnahan really captures the Margot Kidder energy and uses that to create her own version of Lois who is a fiercely brilliant journalist with a heart of gold, even if that means she has to be the one questioning Superman’s actions. And finally, it’s the most fun Superman movie ever. Period. Watch it.
