Tom Cassidy Common Sense Media Some superhero movies descend into a confusing mess of explosions shot by whirling cameras. But here the animation is crisp and clear, making every thump and blown-up building a gripping spectacle. Rated: 4/5 May 3, 2022 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Would I buy it? Jack G Yet another Superman movie that perfectly shows how not to write a Superman movie. The movie focuses on action over everything else and it is to it's disadvantage. This leads to poor characterization across the board, leaving most characters as generic imitations of their well known counterparts. Lex Luthor gets the worst treatment in this department, as he becomes an unfunny comedic relief character, leading to out-of-character and out-of-place lines throughout the film that becomes grating and exhausting. Brainiac, while his lines are well delivered, is stuck with an ugly design for the majority of the film, making you wish they didn't destroy his superior design within the first 10 minutes. The plot itself is paper thin, only designed with the intention of getting from set-piece to set-piece, the majority of them being yet another fight with Brainiac with little variation besides location. It may deliver on the film's title, but it makes you want anything else by the end of it. Once you reach the end, you are greeted with an extremely cheezy and groan-worthy ending. It tries to re-capture the "Flying around the Earth to Turn back time" style ending, but executes it far worse, using a boring and generic trope for the ending. A trope that leaves you scratching your head as you try to understand the logic of how it actually works given the knowledge provided in the film itself. Overall, it is an extremely poor story banking off of the style of the DCAU in order to gain an audience. There are far better Superman animated movies where he battles Brainiac that should be watched over this one. The only point in watching it is if you have exhausted all other options. I cannot recommend this movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review matthias s *Superman: Brainiac Attacks* had some hits and misses for me. I love Superman and the comics, so seeing Tim Daly back as the voice of Superman was a treat. The animation style is great too—it really gives off those nostalgic *Animated Series* vibes, which I loved. The story is solid and pretty comic-accurate, but honestly, it was just so boring. It’s one of those plots I’ve seen a million times in the animated series, other movies, or even in the comics. It’s well-made, no doubt, but it just didn’t do anything new or exciting. There’s nothing here that stands out or feels fresh. I’m glad I watched it, though—it’s always nice to revisit Superman—but this is definitely a one-and-done for me. It just didn’t hook me enough to want a rewatch, even though I respect what it brings to the table. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Havering P OMG! The trillions of dollars of collateral damage caused by Superman and Brainiac in this one, just waved away and never commented on, truly unbelievable! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review steve d Surprisingly mature story that captures the feel of the animated series wile doing something new with it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Started off strong with some great voice over talents but fell short with the story and action scenes. There is a good twist near the end of the middle act but it was not good enough to redeem the movie. It felt sluggish and the action at the end seemed boring and monotonous. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member To start, if you're a fan of the franchise you're immediately taken out of it by the voice acting. The substitute voices are far distracting if you're used to the original cast. They make Superman out to be a very, very slow learner and Lex's character has been turned into a complaining child.
