Anton Bitel Little White Lies this mystery romance is a hybrid creature, split between truth and fiction, idealism and cynicism, and unfolding along a river where there are many stories, where everything is in constant flux, and where even love may be just another myth. Apr 11, 2024 Full Review Richard Brody The New Yorker Its twists and turns are so abrupt, its dramatic structure so elusive, that it requires a sort of roadmap to highlight its ironies and allusions, the realities implied by its calculated evasions. Feb 21, 2023 Full Review J. Hoberman Village Voice The showy jump cuts and off-kilter close-ups belie an extremely well edited, even supple, piece of work. Aug 17, 2001 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …is a classic of the best kind of international art-house cinema, with a simple hook and a lyrical, cheerfully evasive feel that any true romantic can enjoy…. Rated: 4/5 Apr 22, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... the polluted, garbage strewn river that snakes through Shanghai, makes for an inspired metaphor in Ye Lou’s melancholy meditation on love, memory, and obsession. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Lee Jutton Film Inquiry Originally released in 2000, Suzhou River is now available in a new 4K restoration that fortunately preserves all of the visual roughness that makes its depiction of life amidst the grit and grime of this polluted river so strangely enchanting. Dani G I just wasn't much into it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/09/23 Full Review Audience Member depresif say?labilecek bir dili olan; özgün sinemato?rafisi ve onu destekleyen müzi?iyle; etkileyici ve hüzünlü hikayesiyle; çok ama çok ilginç bir a?k filmi. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member The Chinese Vertigo set in Shanghai's underworld. Another great piece of Chinese romanticism in movie filming. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully shot, with a brilliant pace of story telling and kept me interested from start to finish and still captures my attention after the 5th watching. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member some cinematic styles may be better suited for non-Chinese films, true or false?
