In remote Pilbara country in Western Australia, troubled 16-year-old Indigenous girl, Murra, finds herself abandoned after an explosive incident with her drug-fueled mother. On the cusp of being lost in the 'Child Protection' system, an unusual lifeline is thrown her way by her uncle Ian, the local cop, in the form of a unique Photo Safari. Before Murra knows it, she is careening down a dusty highway with a minibus full of 'at risk' teens and two charismatic team leaders. Will this be the lifeline Murra needs or a catalyst for her demise?

David Stratton The Australian The production of indigenous cinema in Australia seems to be very healthy at present, and though modest, Sweet As is an attractive and at times thought-provoking example of the genre. Rated: 3/5 Jun 2, 2023 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It’s a coming-of-age story with predictable outcomes... but there’s something very persuasive about the way Murra gradually falls in love with the camera and the insights she gains from viewing the life around her through its lens. Rated: 4/5 Jun 1, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Clerc and co-writer, veteran Australian actor Steve Rodgers have crafted an evocative, provocative drama that's up there with other classic Aussie tales of troubled youth like Walkabout and Samson & Delilah. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Nadine Whitney AWFJ.org Sweet As is a marvelous and sensitive film that extends its huge heart to most of the characters. Just as Clerc’s journey was a transformative one for her, Sweet As is a transformative journey for the audience. Sep 6, 2023 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground As set to all-Indigenous soundtrack, the film is happiest surveying, contemplating and being in the moment; like protagonist, like movie. Jul 22, 2023 Full Review Jane Freebury The Canberra Times (Australia) The issues for at-risk youth are referenced but not not followed through in this inspiring and hopeful road trip through Australia's remote Pilbara region Rated: 4/5 Jun 5, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
