Sheila O'Malley RogerEbert.com The footage of these four women is so intimate. They allow us into their lives, to see them at their worst. The film is handled so sensitively that it never feels exploitative. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Andrea Thompson Chicago Reader Brace yourself, because Elisa Levine and Gabriel Miller’s documentary is the kind of experience trigger warnings are made for. Shot vérité style over a period of several years, Sweetheart Deal is a real-life horror story unfolding in real time... The camera is used as a portal, merging two very different worlds so that we may experience the dangers of the street from the safety of our homes. Rated: 8/10 Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Marya E. Amanda C This was an amazing film. Heartbreaking & raw. I really enjoyed the different stories of each woman. The twist is crazy. I do not want to say too much for others who have not seen it. Documentaries are my fave. Beautifully shot. Dark & gritty. Loved it. I hope the ladies are doing well. 🖤 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Elizabeth C The topic of this documentary--addiction and prostitution in Seattle—originally put me off. But I am so glad I saw it! It is a beautifully crafted film. All the elements of film-making combine to make it an exceptional experience, moving, heart-breaking and finally inspiring. The cinematography and editing are both dazzling for their quality. Sound track effective. The incredible level of trust that the cinematographer and director developed with their subjects is revealed in the footage. Oscar-worthy in many categories.
