What to Know

Critics Consensus

Glossy to a fault, Swiped packages its true events as a rote reenactment instead of delivering the feminist story it could have been.

It's far too shallow of a movie for such an important subject. Go to Full Review

The history of how online dating went from deeply uncool to de rigueur is one worth telling, and Swiped’s methods, corny and contrived as they can be, are proficient enough to do it. Go to Full Review
Alissa Wilkinson New York Times Sep 19
Swiped aims to explore the difficulties of being a woman in a man’s world, from workplaces to the internet more widely. It does so in broad strokes with predictable characterization. Go to Full Review

I do hereby challenge every single male in any traditionally male profession to sit through Swiped...and not see shades of their own workplace, and maybe even themselves. Go to Full Review

What's surprising about Swiped isn’t how entertaining it is as a commercial film, but how it utilizes its commercialization to repackage a story about sexism in a relatively digestible fashion. Go to Full Review

Kyle M Dec 10 "The Social Network" in the dating app conversation of conflicting engagement when outlining the ethics adjacent to the arising feministic core by deserved empathy but mainly told through the main portion without the sought satisfying dive. This been profiled with reverence and convince over its suggestive composite legal loophole aligned in a timely manner upon social prospects elevated by James’ truthfully representational conviction, thus prompting swipe right. (B) See more Nov 30 Great movie. A must watch for any girl entering computer science programs, so they know what to prep for and how to fight. And for all the bro assholes who think this is not a great movie, because it is not about naked chicks. See more Only G Nov 27 Great potential, not so great story. Maybe it was better, but I speed watched the majority. Nevertheless, I understood the content rather well. The stereotypes were easy to follow. Brilliant women fights bad men and apparently wins in the end, can't say, stopped watching before ending. See more Rui Z Nov 26 The plot is clear and engaging, it shows the journey of Whitney through a toxic workplace. The story flows well as the conflict builds, and it highlights the importance of her experience and the message it brings about respect and equality. See more Angi G Nov 11 Refreshing. Inspiring actually. See more Fifty T Nov 6 Lily James Shines, But Where's the Bumble Story? : I liked "Swiped", though it wasn't quite what I signed up for. Expecting the Bumble creation story, I got a film that's 75% about toxic tech bro culture at Tinder versus feminism... which is compelling on its own, just not the advertised journey. Lily James and Jackson White deliver genuinely good performances, particularly during the harassment sequences that feel uncomfortably authentic. The supporting cast, including Dan Stevens and Myha'la, add energy when given screen time. The first two acts crackle with the manic energy of startup culture and workplace toxicity done right. However, Bumble's creation feels rushed into the final 20 minutes, almost an afterthought to the Tinder lawsuit drama. And I wish that part were explored a bit more. The glossy direction prioritizes inspiration over introspection, never truly examining the contradictions at play. It's pretty great in parts, particularly the workplace dynamics, but feels like two different movies competing for attention. See more Read all reviews
