Angie Han FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Sara Luna Zoric is so watchable that it's sometimes easy to forget being impressed by her. Jun 16, 2021 Full Review Sophie Monks Kaufman Reverse Shot The dominant tone in Take Me Somewhere Nice is set by the filmmaker's absurd sense of humor in the face of unsettling twists and turns. Jun 11, 2021 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review A really odd and very arresting movie. Jun 16, 2020 Full Review Eileen G'Sell Hyperallergic Plumbs the fraught power of female sexuality via utterly asynchronous tones. Aug 3, 2021 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site Sendijarevic's better instincts prevail. The film sheds some, although not all, of its eccentricity and takes on a warmer, more sympathetic quality. Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Soham Gadre Film Inquiry Take Me Somewhere Nice exists in an uncomfortable no-woman's-land between choosing a path and abandoning all direction. While this can be symbolic of the confused sexual adolescence of its central character, it doesn't work as an artistic choice. Jul 17, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

brent m This largely inconsequential road trip tale about a Dutch-born Bosnian adolescent who returns to her homeland to visit her hospitalized father seems to be grasping for something to say but never manages to express what it's really going for. Director Ena Sendijarevic's debut feature combines part coming of age story, part quirky comedy, part character study and part heritage discovery set against the backdrop of a land that's still recovering from the hostility of a conflict that left it angry, fearful and scarred. Unfortunately, that mix doesn't blend well, especially with its uneven pacing, jarring changes in mood, and developments that aren't fully explained or seemingly emerge from out of nowhere. The final act in particular unfolds aimlessly, as if it were being made up as the filmmaker went along, unsure how to wrap up the story. The rudiments of a gifted new talent are present here, but their assemblage in this vehicle largely miss the mark. Here's hoping the next effort is a better one.
