Synopsis
Blending fantasy and science fiction, this adaptation of a 10th-century Japanese fairy tale follows a farming couple who have lost their only daughter. When the husband (Toshiro Mifune) discovers a baby on their land, he and his wife raise the mysterious little girl as their own. The baby grows up to be a beautiful young woman (Yasuko Sawaguchi) and is pursued by multiple suitors. Though eager to start her life on Earth, the young woman must return to where she came from: the moon.
