Chris F A very odd, very complicated film. It struggles a bit to wrap up all its ideas and thoughts together. The film can be messy and disjointed. But at the same time, I don't feel like that was a concern. Maybe the disjointed nature serves the unclean, unfixed characters. Unfortunately, however, because the show is so disjointed, it comes off as a bit muddled and confused. It has these real core ideas that it wants to express, but it's as if it gets confused along the way on how to express them. It focuses on this idea of being all alone, and struggling, while eventually finding family; it also has these philosophical ideas such as gravity and people's place in the world; it also has these ideas of femininity and motherhood, and how it's not as clean and clear-cut as many people play it off to be. Yet, because the film tries to express all things things at once, it never felt like any of them landed. This is compounded by the nature of storytelling itself, where there has to be a beginning, middle, and end. It's the end where everything struggles to wrap up. Just like a baby's room, with their toys scattered everywhere, it was a lot of fun for them in the moment, but now you're left with the mess to clean up as the parent, and the parents of this film just didn't really know where everything belonged. Is that a bad thing? No, I think the film is quite good. And it almost deserves even higher praise for Page's phenomenal acting, which shines like a beacon in many scenes. But ultimately, a great actor can fixed a funky script. It's a good, intimate, grungy movie. And it's fine for what it is. But it can never really escape itself and transcend into something more. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/06/23 Full Review David M The acting and intelligent and very believable dialogue had me slack jawed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Sue K It's like it never finished. Bert disappointing. Guess they ran out of money. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/28/23 Full Review Martin H The characters, although apparently stereotypes, were allowed to develop subtelty as the film progressed. An entertaining and thought provoking narrative about being a mother Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/20/23 Full Review Nelson B Amazing and Elliot Page owns this role Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/07/23 Full Review c5scottman More loose ends than an old sweater.
