Critics Consensus

While far from Disney's greatest film, Tangled is a visually stunning, thoroughly entertaining addition to the studio's classic animated canon.

Tom Charity CNN.com This snappy role reversal may or may not appeal to young men, but it inspires some classic knockabout screwball comedy and an exciting, vertiginous escape sequence. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Richard Corliss TIME Magazine This is your basic, and very enjoyable, Disney princess musical, an empowerment tale to teach bright, dreamy girls how to grow to maturity -- and outgrow the adults in charge. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard If this is what old-fashioned means, then bring it on. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times Bolstered by an array of snappy original songs composed by Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater in tandem with a superbly droll screenplay by Dan Fogelman, “Tangled” is eminently captivating, impossible to resist and, for the easily prone, tear-jerking. Rated: 4.5/5 Jan 10, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson It might not be Pixar, but the colors, textures, and details modeled after French Rococo oil-and-canvas paintings are amazing. Rated: 4/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review It’s all very bright and colorful, no doubt accentuated beyond the norm for the sake of 3D’s downfall dimming effect. Still, there’s no sense of wonder about the production. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 3, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Mother Gothel is a b**** Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Matthew T Not a big fan of modern Disney, but here’s Disney sticking with what it does best—original animated movies based on classic stories and fairy tales. They’re the best in the business, and Tangled was a welcome return to form, taking back the crown they keep having to wrestle from other studios. With Tangled, Disney’s 3D animation had finally caught up with Pixar (and DreamWorks), showcasing the brilliant lushness and variety of the scenery along with the technological marvel of its smooth animation. The lantern scene, in particular, is breathtaking and moving. The casting was spot on, with Donna Murphy delivering an excellent performance in her musical villain role. A joy to watch these animated characters go on that fairy-tale journey to the signature Disney happy ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review Audience Member One of the better Disney movies for sure.. Solid 8.5/10! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review matthias s **Tangled – A Hair-Raising Delight** ★★★½ Disney took Rapunzel’s classic tale, tossed it out the tower window, and replaced it with something infinitely more fun. *Tangled* is a hilarious, heartfelt adventure packed with fantastic characters, dazzling animation, and a romance so good it could charm a grumpy horse (or at least Maximus). Flynn and Rapunzel’s chemistry? Off the charts. Their banter? Chef’s kiss. It’s easy to see why she’s a fan-favorite princess—she’s bright, lovable, and just the right mix of naive and gutsy. The jokes land perfectly, the action keeps things moving, and the ending? Yeah, I teared up. The songs are beautifully performed, but let’s be honest, they’re not *Disney-legendary*. Still, the film’s magic isn’t just in the music—it’s in the relationships, humor, and sheer warmth that makes it unforgettable. Not a revolutionary fairytale, but definitely one done *better*. Absolutely worth letting down your hair for. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
