See more Dee C @Dee-Ceiver 2 days ago I’ve never watched a more unwatchable film than Tapawingo. And I assert confidently that most of these high ratings are completely fabricated. Fake, but much more entertaining than the actual movie. Clearly, much of the praise comes from the filmmakers themselves. If you don’t believe me, scroll through the Audience Reviews and notice how often — miraculously — people say the exact same thing. For instance, "The opening hooked me instantly with its offbeat comedic rhythm. The comedic rhythm grows stronger as the film settles into itself." Wow. I can assure you, this would be no-one’s takeaway, much less the identical observation of both Sarah E. and Jake D. To resort to ballot box stuffing is pretty much the lowest of creative lows. If you make something you love, stand by it. But not by flooding RT with fake reviews. Anyway, as far as Tapawingo goes: It’s a cringe worthy rehash of Napoleon Dynamite made by people who don’t seem to understand what made Napoleon a classic. It never really pulls off anything beyond the basic concept, and the story doesn’t develop into something substantial or genuinely funny. I wanted to enjoy it much more than I did, but it constantly felt like it was drowning in its own premise. Part of the problem is the casting. Bringing in the actor who played Napoleon Dynamite and having him essentially play that same type of character makes the comparison impossible to ignore. Instead of creating something fresh, the movie feels like it is trying to recreate a formula that worked somewhere else. I know Tapawingo wasn’t necessarily trying to be Napoleon Dynamite, but that is the vibe it gives off, and it never reaches that same level. The story felt like a road nobody cared about, and I never connected with it. I wanted to like this one, but it just didn’t work. See more Ben N @Bneffer May 3, 2026 At first, this movie felt like a knockoff of Napoleon. By the end, i felt like it was it's own movie with a wonderful take on comedy all it's own. The needle drops are great. The characters are ridiculous in the best way. The color is nostalgic. The editing is purposeful and sets the tone throughout. John has the best reactions. Will Luna is a bit outlandish - I think that a less out-there sidekick might have been a better call. Overall -- I recommend this to anyone who likes oddball comedies.
