Predating his adventures as an adult vine-swinger, this animated feature has awkward teenager Tarzan (Karim Pelkonen) searching for an identity when he realizes he's out of place among the apes that have raised him. He ventures into the jungle and imitates other animals to see if they might be better role models. This approach does not succeed. It's only when he meets a reclusive ape (Jyrki Kovaleff) that his journey toward self-discovery nears its destination.

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 6h Tarzan II is a surprisingly charming direct-to-DVD sequel that delivers more heart and creativity than many similar Disney follow-ups. While you can tell it was made for home release, the film feels fully invested in telling a meaningful story. The animation is clean, colorful, and visually appealing, helping bring young Tarzan’s emotional journey to life. The story focuses on his struggle with identity, belonging, and self-confidence, showing him trying to understand who he is while strengthening bonds with both new and old friends. The screenplay handles these themes with sincerity and warmth. The villains are handled in a refreshing way, allowing for growth and resolution rather than simple defeat. This choice adds depth and reinforces the film’s message about acceptance and understanding. Overall, Tarzan II is cute, engaging, and emotionally grounded. It may not match the original’s scale, but it stands as a solid, enjoyable sequel that is well worth watching. See more Read all reviews
