      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Ted 2 reunites Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane for another round of sophomoric, scatological humor -- and just as before, your enjoyment will depend on your tolerance for all of the above. Read critic reviews

Where part one aimed low for its entire running time, they actually tried to tell a story and create a few softer notes this time, which works. Sure, there are still a lot of non-PC jokes and the movie quotes are the most fun, just like the Comic Con "showdown". But a few other moments are actually surprisingly sweet and not as toxic and cynic as the majority of the first time. A big step up.

Ted 2 goes further into the "stoner comedy" genre than its predecessor did and provides not more laughs, but what feels like a perfect effort in matching the laughs of the original film. It's common knowledge that sequels are generally inferior and Ted 2 isn't indifferent to this stereotype, however it's definitely not a bad film. Mark Wahlberg is on top form again as is Seth Macfarlane as the conscious teddy bear and main protagonist Ted who's voice acting is as always, superb. It's a nice surprise to see Amanda Seyfried make a valiant return to comedy as well, giving the Ted series the funny woman it deserved, who bolsters away the whiny girlfriend of John from the first one, played by Mila Kunis. Giovanni Ribisi is back as the villain and is unbeatable in malevolence. With pop culture gags and toilet humour a plenty, Ted 2 is a sequel that's most definitely likely to offend, annoy and insult and has therefore done it's job.

Funny, yet redundant, sophomoric yet spontaneous-Ted 2 is, as most sequels are, a mixed bag. Like its predecessor it's an entirely inconsequential film-how could it be when the protagonist is an inexplicably animate Teddy Bear. And, like its predecessor, the plot is pretty silly-essentially boiled down to Ted suing for legal personhood. There are times where the film seems reduanet in its jokes, where it doubles down on skits which are otherwise unfunny, and seems devoid of real purpose. There are other times, however, where the film is nothing short of hysterial, where the humor is imaginiative, the execution good, and the characters enjoyable. At the end of the day-is it more funny than yet? Yes, but not by a whole lot. 3/5 Stars
