Virginia M Okay first off, I don’t know why this movie gets such a bum rap! I grew up in the 80s and this low budget film is literally one of my favorite movies. It has all the elements of that classic 80s “campy” locally shot Friday the 13th feel. Being a Jersey girl myself- Friday the 13th original (shot in North Western NJ) is my go to. I consider myself an expert in 80s Horror/Slasher films and Terror is now on my daily watch and I’m not even from Oklahoma. Sure it’s low budget, the killer isn’t a surprise, there’s a lot of talking and the acting isn’t Oscar quality but those all add to that 80s classic feel that brings me back to my teen hood days of Coors lite, Diet Slice soda, Lycra swimsuits and 80s hair. For those die hard fans who do like the movie, invest in the Vinegar Syndrome 4k version. It’s brilliantly restored and has many extras. 8/10 for this 80s kid! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Audience Member Rifftrax Review: 9 out of 10: Bad, slow films where nothing happens have stumped the boys before. (The Beast of Yucca Flats, Robot Monster) but they really bring their A-game here. The riffing is on point and upbeat. They really seem to be enjoying themselves. They perform a miracle and make Terror at Tenkiller actually watchable. Terror at Tenkiller: 1 out of 10: A woman on the run from her controlling boyfriend hides out in a cabin with a friend. But local girls are disappearing and they could be next. The Good: Well it made for a surprisingly well done Rifftrax track. Also, it gave an acting start to Michael Shamus Wiles who went on to become a solid working actor (He, like everyone else, is awful in this film.) The Bad: Good lord where to start. Do you like to watch woman talk on the phone? Do like endless discussions about nothing? How about panning shots of an unremarkable lake? Scenes that go on a least a minute after they were supposed to? There is no mystery to who the killer is. The killer is one of the five characters in the movie. He has no motivation, no one-liners, no hockey mask or hook arm. Just a bro with a few screws loose. There is also no terror, suspense, or horror to be found. Well except for the realization that there are forty minutes to go and the characters are taking yet another nap. The Ugly: Why do we watch slasher films? Is it to see two women discuss their relationship problems in front of wood paneling? Or is it for the ye olde sex and violence. Well, I hope you're a fan of the former. The only nudity is an accidental flash from lead Stacy Logan clearly caused by the full-screen transfer and the violence is both bloodless and incompetent. In Conclusion: I thought The Final Terror was the nadir of eighties slasher films but Terror at Tenkiller is in a whole other category. It is like one of those seventies search for Bigfoot films where they spend seventy minutes in a swamp and never actually find Bigfoot. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Terror at Tenkiller can hardly be classified as a thriller, or even a horror movie. Sure there are some horror elements to it, but it's all just so terrible and uninteresting. I nearly fell asleep several times during the movie. I was kind of looking forward to it too because it was a VHS tape I used to see the box art for all the time at the video store when I was a kid, but I never actually saw it. It turned out to be a crapfest, and not even an enjoyable crapfest. It was just boring most of the time. Rifftrax recently did a riffing on it, which is worth a watch, but horror fans can steer clear of this one if they're looking for some hidden horror gem. It's just not here. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Boyfriend problems are not the only issues for Leslie as she seeks a getaway to Tenkiller Lake. Not much imagination as the killer is revealed right away and no motive or backstory is ever uncovered. Lots of talk time for the girls as well. Made by rank amateurs, except the box cover, which is excellent. One of the more notable film productions from Oklahoma. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Leslie goes to a cottage to get away from a controlling boyfriend. The town looks peaceful enough outside of a beer-guzzling man who leers at girls but a killer lurks. Void of originality and suspense. Zero guesswork to determine the killer.
