Audience Member OK movie, but nowhere near as good as "I Dream Too Much" (1935). This one is too messy and the songs selected were not songs the general public could identify with. Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy only hit it big because they did "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life", a popular song that everyone knew. That's what this movie is missing. All the operatic screaming up and down the octaves is not pleasant -- songs that the public knew or ones that had distinct popular melodies would have made her movies top drawer entertainment. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Typical 30's silliness with Lily singing prettily, Lucy lending funny bitchy support and Oakie, Auer and Jenks a daffy trio. Apr 22, 2020 Full Review Ann Ross Maclean's Magazine It's a fairly routine and subordinate role and, apart from the aria, almost any Hollywood actress with a good voice could have filled it acceptably.
