Nicolas M It is so rare to encounter a movie as intelligent as a book, but this is one of the few. Such incisive dialog, sensational acting, perceptive insights, and gorgeous directing. One of my two favorite masterpieces. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Far too intelligent for the average viewer or critic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member just saw it on hulu free. after 30 yrs, I still found it beautiful, engaging and fascinating. Acting and directing are superb. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked it, but the transfer of the film I saw was rather poor, making it hard to make out the scenes. That said, it moved slow in some parts, but it was a good one. I liked the fellow who played Casanova and Harvey (though he was dubbed) particularly stood out. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Ainoastaan Marcello Mastroiannin huikea roolisuoritus nostaa elokuvan mitäänsanomattomuudesta ylempään keskinkertaisuuteen. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Ettore Scola's "La Nuit de Varennes" frames the various viewpoints and attitudes in France in the ides of the French Revolution through an unlikely group of travelers making their way to Varennes, the town where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were captured while trying to escape Paris on June 20, 1791. Though it never fully takes off or succeeds as a compelling narrative, it is an interesting social study featuring a strong cast headed by the wonderful Marcello Mastroianni as a vain Casanova. Gabriella Pescucci's costumes are elegant and in tune with all the differing characterizations. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Le Nuit de Varennes has some fine things in it, surrounded by a lot of other things.
