The cast includes numerous formidable talents... But they're all stuck trying to fill out two-dimensional roles in a directorial package heavier on generic professional gloss than conviction.

It's hard to see what Steen is really trying to say with other than 'Families, huh?'. The commentary doesn't get any sharper than that, and there's not enough humour here, or depth of characterisation, to sweeten the pill.

Steen's winning, warm turn as the movie's beleaguered central character goes a long way towards perpetuating That Time of Year's agreeable atmosphere...

Some of the dialogue lines are a bit cheesy, but some are Great. The story is uneven (the ending strange). It captures Danish culture quite well. It was fun.
