Melissa Anderson Time Out Rated: 3/6 Jun 2, 2007 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Little Edie models her strange getups, studies an astrology paperback through a magnifying glass, holds forth on the horrors of alcohol and the strength of her Catholic faith, and delivers numerous spontaneous singing performances. Jan 5, 2007 Full Review Michael Wilmington Chicago Tribune A bit like wandering into a slice of life that suddenly turns into a Tennessee Williams play, with upper-class Eastern accents replacing the Southern ones. Rated: 3/4 Jan 4, 2007 Full Review Eric Monder Film Journal International Deserves a thoughtful look-and a lively argument. Mar 1, 2007 Full Review Maitland McDonagh TV Guide Fans of the first film will want to see this extension, though it stands equally well on its own as a portrait of thwarted, headstrong women trapped in a degraded present and borne back ceaselessly into the past. David F While it doesn't pack the emotional punch of ‘Grey Gardens', this supplementary film expands on and enriches some of the themes and stories from that earlier documentary. It is a wonderful complement to one of the greatest documentaries ever made. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/14/23 Full Review dave s Consisting entirely of outtakes from its predecessor Grey Gardens from three decades earlier, The Beales of Grey Gardens again examines the lives of ‘Big' Edie Beale and ‘Little' Edie Beale, an eccentric mother and daughter duo living in a decrepit mansion in East Hampton, New York. The documentary follows the duo's superficial stream of consciousness ramblings as they meander through their seemingly meaningless days, channeling what feels like the delusions of screen characters like Blanche Dubois and Norma Desmond. While it tends to be repetitive (‘Little' Edie's singing performances, for example) and not as fresh as the original movie, The Beales of Grey Gardens provides an insight into mental illness that has rarely been captured so vividly on film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Just bizarre...... a story of a mother and her grown child with too much money living in seclusion, makes you realize what you don't want !! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty much the same as the original Grey Gardens, just like a extended version. But, it somehow help building the entire picture around them, supplementing with additional information and a broader perspective. Every scene is a new dress and a new look, actually making Edie a icon of fashion. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Probably could have left it alone after the first one, but still interesting and worth the watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member An extra look at the lives of two outrageous individuals, with footage worthy of being in the original piece, but superb as it is in clips.
