Audience Member Nami Iguchi creates a simple little film about a complicated relationship. 2 friends, constantly falling out over men, find themselves living together in their friend’s home while she heads off to China. The 2 polar housemates gradually put up with each other and begin to rebuild their friendship, until, yet again, men come between them. With no real plot-line to speak of, The Cat Leaves Home is more character-driven, focusing on the differing personalities of the out-going Suzu and the shy Yoko, showing them in ordinary, domestic situations, with Nami Iguchi showing the mismatched pair are more similar than meets the eye. This provides a nice, gentle pace and elements of humour, making no attempts to be big or brash. The Cat Leaves Home, therefore, will never break any boundaries, nor change the cinema world. Indeed, it’s difficult to figure why the titular cat household cat was ever there in the first place. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
