Following the capitulation of the French to Germany's Nazi invaders, a unit of defiant French soldiers become German prisoners of war. Except for the Nazi-sympathizing wine-seller Andre Duval (Hume Cronyn), the prisoners are overtly hostile to their captors, which leads to their increasingly sadistic treatment by camp commander Maj. Bruhl (Tonio Selwart) and his subordinates. Despite this brutality, the prisoners band together and attempt to escape their confinement.

Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Where the censors asleep the day they looked at this? Considering the time period remarkably brutal POW drama. Well acted and compelling. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member a good WWII pic made DURING WWII. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The POW camp scenes are not that convincing and the outcome is a little idealistic, but it is inspiring wartime stuff.
