One of the most thoughtful novel adaptations. It is thoughtful and the characters are very well developed. Whilst the mystery isn’t a great mystery, this isn’t the point. Prentice grows up and we get to know and care about him, his family and his friends.

the mystery wasn't such a big mystery (most of it could be guessed fairly quickly) - instead, a great panorama of a Scottish family. that's the part i most appreciated.
