Is this the Evil Dead for kids? The first thing I noticed about this movie was the acting, the dramatic acting, and with the way everything is directed and it's story line especially how the characters are, I was just embracing the dramatic acting, which made it quite enjoyable even with some cringe moments I found my self laughing. The story itself isn't that bad at all to be honest, but why does this movie makes me think it is older than the date it was made, to me feel like late 90's, I like how when the monster first came they would show bits and pieces of the monster not revealing it fully until later on, but I was genuinely surprised at how good it looked because they used practical effects rather than only CGI. I didn't find the ending quite climactic but it was still enjoyable, but after it eneded I was actually satisfied and it didn't feel like I wasted my time especially for the type of movie this is. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/24/22 Full Review Audience Member Decent watch, probably won't watch again, but can recommend, especially for a younger audience. Sometimes it is fun to see what they're offering to the kids, and you run into something familiar like R.L. Stine, and you even hop into the way back machine to see some surprises: like Emily Osment (Gabi, "Young and Hungry"), Brittany Curran (Fen, The Magicians), and Tobin Bell (Jigsaw, SAW). The story itself is solid, if juvenile (it IS designed for a younger audience), and the actor is a little over the top, but I think it is a combination of good writing of silly characters for kids and quality actors. Not only does the cast do a great job of the teen drama and typical family infighting between siblings, but the real shining moment of the movie is the "Evil Thing". It is amazing what they can do with some simple practical effects and good camera work. If you're looking for a "scary" movie to sit down with the kids, this is a good choice. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Aside from Emily Osment's youthfully nostalgic charisma in her gothic presence, the conception for the beloved book series' cinematic revitalization originated in this very tamed, old-fashioned horror similarly targeted as the televised adaptations to the reading audience with stock cliches and well-deserved justifications for terrors over missed scares until the final outcome solidified the overall satisfaction. (B-) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent horror flick for kids. This was a movie that sure terrified me growing up. This will definitely scare kids if they need a good scare Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A surprisingly good introductory horror flick for younger kids. I remember seeing it as a kid and it was actually decently scary. (B) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
