Audience Member Science fiction/documentary using a Walter Benjamin based methodology to explore the phenomena of black music from Robert Johnson's mythological meeting at the crossroads, through the science fiction metaphors and motifs of Sun Ra, George Clinton and Lee Perry up to Drum'n'Bass. Looks at the meeting of the experience of the african dyaspora and technology in music, science fiction as exploration and return to emanicaption posing the question of what is meant by the opitcal illusion that is the divide between social reality and science fiction? The last angel in this instance is a black cybernaut from 200 years in the future seeking out a meeting analogous to Johnson's crossroad in our present. Quotes Greg Tate's interesting thesis that black americans' have already experienced the abduction and genetic engineering that is the obsession of much of their countries popular science fiction. More accessible than I make it sound and a must for those who really are interested in music. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
