George Orwell Time and Tide This ‘‘blood-chilling mystery drama’’ (advance ads.) is neither mysterious, a drama, nor, in spite of some goodish acting, blood-chilling. It is simply an old-fashioned murder story dolled up with a few “psychological” trappings. Rich C Very entertaining movie with suspense. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/07/23 Full Review Audience Member In light of the tendancy for society to overlook male dominance, psychological abuse & coercion to take advantage of women, this tale of abuse from 1941 is a subtle reminder for today's audience that we aught to be vigilant about abuse. - The title "The Mad Doctor" is not about a creepy chemist conjuring up toxic concoctions in a smoky lab. - It's about a sneaky serial opportunist/murderer. - The only weak point in it is that the Girl had to be rescued by the Hero, but then, it was made in 1941. - It was a product of its time. - But the full picture is all there.
