Horse breeder Doc Lockwood (Lyle Talbot) is behind the sudden onset of corruption and crime in the small Western town of Saddle Rock. But local rancher Gene Autry (Gene Autry) refuses to let any of that get in the way of his business. As Gene attempts to obtain mustangs for a transportation company, he finds himself at odds with Doc. After a confrontation, Doc is determined to take the singing cowboy down at all costs. So Gene agrees to settle matters via a dangerous horse race.
