Audience Member .... crackling sound, poor film quality Hayward great as hard boiled detective of the 1940s Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a bad little noiresque film with some interesting directorial flourishes. The Saint is called in to sort out the mob in New York. Louis Hayward was too slight physically to come across as a strong Saint. However he is adequate. Short at 69 minutes it does not drag and there are enough plot twists to keep you involved if not entralled. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member After reading some of the short novels and having been raised on the Roger Moore series I wanted to see how the 1930's spawned a successful series. I was sorely disappointed. Neither is it the super-spy of Roger Moore's series nor is it the rakish wisecracking Templar of the Charteris books. I found Mr. Heyward woefully miscast and the story slow and uninvolving. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrific little mystery/thriller that was originally set to be Alfred Hitchcock's first film directed in America (that ended up being the classic "Rebecca"). Mystery, suspense and Leslie Charteris' The Saint. This was Louis Hayward's only appearance as The Saint, which the great George Sanders took over for the next five films before leaving for the nearly identical "Falcon" series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Louis Hayward is excellent in The Saint's first screen outing, he has all the machinations of the characters persona. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member The saint takes on a crime spree in new York in a largely average spy thriller. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
