Audience Member "The Singularity Is Near" is cheesy at times. Ok, more accurately, there are times when it's NOT cheesy. But if you view the "Ramona" segments as slightly-illustrative levity (think of them as the one-panel comics between chapters in "For Dummies" books), the remainder of the film is an excellent primer on the Singularity concept. If you don't know what the Singularity is, or you think it's something to be prevented, you need to watch this film. More importantly, whether you've heard of the Singularity or not, this film will illustrate solutions to world issues you may not have considered. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member saw this film quite legally (as I know it has yet to be released) in a pre final form at the Breckenridge Film Festival. Being a fan of the director I went not expecting it to be a deep and disturbing drama documentary that I have not stopped talking about. I was unaware of Raymond Kurzweil's work, but have now ordered two of his books. The whole drama of a robot played by Pauley Perrette (inspired casting) is something I guess if we do not have to consider our children will. This film should not be missed. Mr Kurzweil introduced the film explaining how we are almost there in many respects. Perrette was perfect, just quirky enough to be non human, but certainly convincing enough as one to make you be fully on her side. It just goes to show that if we make machines, like we make our children, there is a responsibility there too. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Movie about the exponential growth of intelligence by a world famous inventor. He predicts "singularity" which is a time where human and artificial intelligence become the same and the growth of intelligence or learning is instantaneous. It will def blow your mind.
