      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The 24th might have told its fact-based story more fully, but despite its flaws, it remains an overall compelling -- and woefully overdue -- reckoning with history.

S P A decent film on a real event. Good acting, smooth plot, but nothing incredible either. Raises questions on what is the best way to change a corrupt and rotten system. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/04/23 Full Review Audience Member decent movie, good performances Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Know your history. Great film. Intense and will have you on the edge of your seat. Doesn’t whitewash American history. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/07/21 Full Review charlie l Where is our main character's backstory? Why should we root for him (besides the fact he is racially discriminated against)? Where did he come from? What was his life like before the Army? While The 24th is a much-needed cinematic tale, these questions are left unanswered, and the film suffers greatly because of it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very authentic and very upsetting. Acting was great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Truth hurts. This is a story based on true events. Well acted. Well written. A compelling story well worth your time to see it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I wish it took some more chances, but it is solidly made. Sep 1, 2020 Full Review Angie Han FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Solid, but not necessarily more than that. Sep 1, 2020 Full Review Ryan Lattanzio indieWire "The 24th" means well, and while it, sadly, mostly elicits a shrug, what the film lacks in pizzaz it more than makes up for in educational value, for better or worse. Rated: C+ Aug 27, 2020 Full Review Danilo Castro Next Best Picture It’s handling of racial and social issues is deft, and its attempt to parallel the injustices going on today is commendable (if not entirely successful). Rated: 7/10 May 17, 2022 Full Review Lonita Cook INKansas City Magazine With gorgeous performances from this rich cast, the ensemble functions to represent interactions of romance, comradery, transformation, and, ultimately, personhood. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Matt Conway Battle Royale With Cheese The 24th's relevant slice of history deserves better than the film's stale History Channel treatment.
