The sea battles are absolutely epic, more realistic and thrilling than John Woo's 2008 "Red Cliff" or even Peter Weir's 2003 "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World." Go to Full Review

The film is already a hit in South Korea, but it lacks the character interest that might make it connect elsewhere. Go to Full Review

No expense has been spared when it comes to the naval battle itself, which takes up the whole second half of the film and contains enough twists and turns to grip throughout. Go to Full Review

Korea's national hero Admiral Yi is brought to life as Choi Min-sik in a big budget but rather one-dimensional spectacle... Go to Full Review

The Admiral: Roaring Currents is a fine example of those qualities in battle, and an excellent view of one of the great naval battles in history that people from every nation can learn from. Go to Full Review

While The Admiral: Roaring Currents has the obvious trappings of a patriotic story about Korea's darkest hour, director Kim Han-min wisely decides to instead focus on fear. Go to Full Review

a a Nov 5 Korea: Admiral Yi - Keep Beating the Drum - Extra History - Part 1 https://youtu.be/3ieaDfD_h6s?si=HfFk1HVFlA0KxIac I would recommend reading the dairy of Admiral Yi during the war to see the spirit of him and others who supported him. Battle-hardened top notch Japanese generals and solders armed with cutting edge western muskets and western battle tactics(simply war machine as shown in Pearl Harbor attack) vs Korean generals and solders enjoying hundreds of years of relative peace thus lacking experience. Admiral Yi and others like him were there in the army worked hard to keep the army top notch even during peace time as shown in turtle ships and superior cannons and rockets and matching battle tactics. It is about their story. One major point shown in the movie is about fear. Japanese army tried to instill fear using brutality(also keeping Japanese solders emotionless.) Admiral Yi tried hard to keep people free of fear. Interesting to note that some Japanese admirals and historians during the WW I and WW II admired Admiral Yi to the level of worshiping him like the god of war. The Admiral: Roaring Currents is a seafaring war film with some truly breakneck action sequences and great performances, especially Choi Min-Sik. See more 08/26/2020 A war movie about the naval battle of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the god of war. You can see why he can be said to be the strongest in the history of naval warfare by watching this movie. He was an invincible soldier and general who had never been defeated in any war.
