Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Anthem of the Heart" is an excellent anime, whose truly captivating story will satisfy anyone who will succumb to it. Jul 26, 2020 Full Review James Marsh South China Morning Post There are hidden references sure to delight Anohana fans along the way, but otherwise this is a run-of-the-mill anime romance, hobbled by an unnecessarily contrived denouement. THEQUEENiSiNTOWN I absolutely adored this. The story was beautiful, the characters were lovely (and did some major development) and I overall had an amazing time watching this. Will teach you a lesson - or two - about life as well! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/23/22 Full Review isla s I quite liked that this film is fairly symbolic/thematic. It's quite a girly film I suppose and so won't appeal to everyone but it's a nice example of anime all the same. I thought it was quite quirky with the references to egg (more specifically, at times, scrambled eggs) and the characters were quite nice. Its a bit 'out there', a little bizarre and if your not keen on music, the apparent (potential?) benefits and healing properties of music, then this won't be for you but otherwise its a perfectly nice and fairly good film I'd say. It is somewhat thoughtful if veering on slightly over-sentimental/cheesy maybe but overall I'd recommend this film to fans of anime, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Predictable film. However, the feel did not disappear. The story is horizontal when in the middle of the film. But, i still like it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member pretty fairy tale like story, liked it the songs too. Like other Japanese lovely animation, its ending is also promising and wonderful Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It felt like a John Hughes movie if he had ever gone into the anime business. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh look, Luke is doing another Anime review, I mean it's not like he's done it before...look I've stopped questioning which films I would review and which ones I would a while ago now because to be honest I have no clue. There is no good explanation for it, I just write the one's that you could say surprise me, just like Legend surprised me of how disappointingly S*** it was and Your Name surprised me so much that I joined the Anime Society and demanded screenings for all of Makoto Shinkai films. With "A Silent Voice" right around the corner, there was no way I wasn't going to talk about this hidden gem of a movie. You notice I said Movie and not Anime, because my honest opinion on differentiating Disney Movies, Anime and your normal Movie is....who the fuck really cares? It wasn't too long ago I thought I would simply never fall for Anime because of how vast and different it was, yet films like Kokoro Ga Sakebitagatterunda (Good luck pronouncing that) show just how relevant they can be in real life even with its tropes and yet still be beautiful to watch and entertaining! We live in a world were we are damn lucky to have creative people who want to make creative things regardless it being Oscar winning films, Anime or any other form of Media and art you can think of. I would talk more but I'm falling into debate territory here, lets get on with my "Review". As absurd as the plot sounds (A young chatter box of a girl has her voice taken away by an egg so she can never hurt anyone again...pretty crazy right?) you might be forgiven thinking this is nothing more than a highschool fantasy movie. Yet the real life implications, the tare between what is fantasy and what is real, makes this a beautiful and heart wrenching tale that much like it's protagonist is screaming to have that story told. We see a quiet withdrawn girl who is unable to communicate using normal methods and the judgement and assumptions made about her by the people around her. The story itself is a very thoughtful slice of life drama which for the most part does not take itself too seriously and is both light hearted and a joy to watch. The story does explore lightly mental health issues and how we as humans cope with events that could literally shatter us to our core, everyone is different and thus display hurt and pain in various ways. This story is not the typical happy love story that will leave you fuzzy and warm inside, it's the kind that ends with a conclusion that will satisfy. It's an honest and smart movie that takes a lot of popular tropes from the genre and drops them on their head, it is never heavy handed in its approach to love and friendship and at the conclusion you definitely feel better having seen it even if its not the fantasy you wished for. I found myself awkwardly tearing up at a simple remix of the song "Over the Rainbow", the Oz song I haven't heard since I was Five years old simply but beautiful conveyed the relationship between the two main characters. Even more surprising is how much I loved the secondary characters and how important they are to the film's core. Of course this movie is not for everyone, its damn Impossible to make a film everyone will relate to and enjoy. This is a teen drama movie, something I still haven't lost touch with as I still find relevance with it today now more than ever, change is hard and I didn't need to go to Uni to figure that out. I may sound stubborn but this part of my life I will not let go because theres a part of me that will always be stupidly and stubbornly childish just like the Melodrama in this film. But I keep my mind open to everything and with the massive variety Anime provides, I've learned having an open mind is best way to enjoy just about anything that will be thrown at you. The film conveys a simple story, with a simple child fantasy and simple music numbers to convey simple themes. Putting it simply, it's fucking gorgeous Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
