Audience Member I was really excited to see this when I saw who was in it. However the first 45 minutes are painful to watch. It doesn't become funny till Danny and Maggies characters start to snap. It's sad in a movie where the whole premise is about an argument between the two main characters, the best part of the movie is the argument happening between the co-stars. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review robert p A cheap redo of the Movie "Carnage" produced in 2011. This has been re-hashed into a new film titled "The Argument". But having watch Carnage starring Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs fame) I found this movie mediocre at best! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Robert expertly steered the wit of Stanford's script throughout the first act set up, and truly let his style shine with the upbeat montage that captured Jack and Lisa's bizarre descent into madness with such delight as well as the should-stop-but-can't participation of their peers with brilliance. Pairing that with Robert's comical and informed takes on people from all walks of the entertainment industry makes for an absolute joy of a film! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A fun film to check out with some friends at your next socially distanced dinner party! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a smart funny and contemporary re-interpretation of Roshoman. Particularly relevant today. Schwartzman has assembled a talented funny cast, and he's directed them with a light and confident hand. LOVED IT!!!! Sheila O'Malley RogerEbert.com There are some very funny bits here, but unfortunately the concept takes too long getting off the ground, leaving the first three-quarters of the movie floating in limbo, waiting for it to all make sense. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 4, 2020 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Viewers who get through a credulity-testing second act may laugh enough in the third to be glad they did. Sep 4, 2020 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety Stanford and Schwartzman's cutesy skirmish doesn't feel honest; if it were, "The Argument" would probably admit that none of these people are ready for a relationship. Sep 4, 2020 Full Review Natasha Alvar The Critical Movie Critics The Argument is the furthest thing from a generic romantic comedy, and I really enjoyed the mesh of the theatrical and cinematic space. Kudos to writer Zac Stanford for the cleverness of this screenplay, and creating something I won't soon forget. May 15, 2021 Full Review Charles Koplinski Reel Talk with Chuck and Pam Stanford creates a brilliantly funny script from which the actors work. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Nov 27, 2020 Full Review Karen Martin Arkansas Democrat-Gazette It takes a while to get where it's going, but patience pays off. Nov 6, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
